Wellness consciousness is an active process through which people become aware of and make choices toward a more successful existence. This includes improving nutrition, physical fitness and mental health.
It also involves establishing positive habits and developing a stronger sense of self-discipline. The results of this study indicate that health consciousness positively influences perceived behavioral control and home-based exercise during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Self-awareness
Self-awareness is the ability to be aware of your internal experiences and emotions. It is a key element of personal growth and a valuable tool for wellness. When you’re self-aware, you have a better understanding of your strengths and weaknesses. Being self-aware also helps you develop meaningful relationships with others and live a happier life.
Self-assessments and surveys have shown that self-awareness is linked to a person’s health and well-being. In a study, a group of students was given an intervention program that involved activities that increase self-reflection, self-observation and introspection. The result was that participants who participated in the program showed more health and well-being indicators than those in the control group.
The program used journaling prompts that focused on self-discovery, which can be done with a physical journal or in a digital document. After a period of two weeks, the participants met to discuss what they’d discovered about themselves. The group was divided into two categories based on the themes that emerged.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the ability to consciously and intentionally observe your thoughts, feelings, and sensations. It can be difficult to master, but it’s a powerful tool that can help you reduce stress and improve your mood.
Studies have shown that mindfulness can lower self-reported levels of depression and anxiety, as well as decrease negative psychological symptoms like rumination and negative attitudes. Moreover, mindfulness can promote empathy and compassion, which in turn can strengthen interpersonal relationships.
It can also be used to manage cravings for addictive substances. In fact, a study from 2018 showed that practicing loving-kindness meditation can reduce emotional stress, anxiety, and alcohol cravings in people with substance use disorders. In addition, mindfulness meditation has been shown to improve cognitive function. Researchers suggest that this is due to the fact that mindfulness teaches people to pay attention to their internal and external experiences in nonjudgmental ways. This can be particularly helpful for people who struggle with ADHD or other cognitive challenges.
Healthy habits
When viewed through the lens of wellness consciousness, healthy habits—such as regular physical activity, a good diet, and adequate sleep—provide benefits that can improve mental and physical health. They can also help prevent chronic diseases and enhance the quality of life.
When making healthy habits a part of their daily routine, wellness conscious people take time to make small changes that can have big impacts over the long term. For instance, they may use a mindfulness practice to slow down and enjoy a cup of coffee instead of gulping it on the go, or they might add micro-breaks during their day by stretching their legs, looking out the window, or breathing deeply.
They also seek out activities that promote cognitive health, such as reading or puzzles, or they may engage in stress management practices like meditation or yoga to keep their emotions in check. They regularly check in with their mental health through journaling or self-reflection, and they may seek out a professional to get support when needed.
Better relationships
Wellness consciousness is an important factor in creating healthy relationships. It includes a variety of qualities, including self-awareness, spirituality, and physical wellness. It also helps in building a strong bond between partners. It also helps you to achieve a greater sense of purpose and meaning in your life.
Moreover, it can lead to better health and well-being, especially if you have a healthy diet. A healthy diet can also improve your sleep patterns and reduce your risk of heart disease. People with high health consciousness also try to eliminate unhealthy habits, such as smoking, eating too much junk food, and spending too much time on social media.
This study analyzed the relationship between health consciousness and home-based exercise by using Structural Equation Modelling. The results show that health consciousness has a significant positive effect on home-based exercise. This is because health consciousness influences home-based exercise through health life goal and perceived behavioral control. This research provides a broader understanding of the influencing mechanisms of health consciousness on home-based exercise during the COVID-19 pandemic.
