Wellness consciousness is the awareness of one’s personal responsibility to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This is a broad concept that includes many behavioral dimensions, including fitness and nutrition.
Unlike most previous studies, which have used actual health behaviors to measure wellness consciousness, this study proposes to measure its underlying psychological characteristics using a new scale of wellness consciousness. Mediation analyses supported this conceptualization.

Using Latent Class Analysis (LCA), items related to individual health behaviors, such as diet and exercise, were found to be cohesive and correlate well with the rest of the dimensions in this construct. In contrast, items related to personal appearance and societal issues were not as closely linked.
