Wellness Consciousness

Wellness is a holistic integration of body, mind and spirit. It encompasses a balanced channelling of energy, the maintenance of healthy habits and the development of positive relationships.

This study demonstrates that health consciousness has a direct impact on home-based exercise and mediates the influence of health life goal and perceived behavioral control.

Spirituality

Spiritual wellness includes beliefs, practices, and feelings about life’s purpose and meaning. It also involves a connection to others and the natural world. People who practice spiritual wellness often pray or meditate, spend time in nature, and express gratitude for what they have.

While many people conflate religion and spirituality, they are two distinct things. Spirituality can include religious faith, but it can also involve a belief in something bigger than oneself and experiences of interconnectedness with the universe.

Studies have shown that people who are more spiritual have higher levels of psychological well-being. This could be because spirituality helps reduce stress, which is a major factor in disease. It may also help people deal with adversity and challenges in life. This is why it’s important to find a healthy balance in life and cultivate your spiritual wellness. You can do this by spending time with family and friends, giving back to the community, or by focusing on your inner peace.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a technique that allows people to notice their thoughts, feelings and sensations without getting caught up in them. It’s been shown to improve wellbeing in a range of ways, from reducing depression and anxiety to boosting resilience and self-esteem.

Mindful practices can be part of a spiritual wellness consciousness, whether they are centred on an individual’s religious beliefs or not. In fact, mindfulness is used as an integral component of some therapeutic approaches such as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy.

However, mindfulness can be a challenge for some individuals who are new to it. The practice of observing one’s emotions and thoughts without judgment can lead to discomfort or resistance at first, especially when the thoughts are difficult or relate to a traumatic experience. As such, it may be better to learn and practise mindfulness alongside a trained teacher in order to ensure that the course is right for you. Moreover, learning with an experienced teacher will help to ease your transition into practicing mindfulness at home.

Relationships

The concept of wellness has evolved from a medical paradigm that treats illnesses and disease to a holistic perspective that promotes healthy lifestyles and positive interrelationships between planetary health, human actions, choices and well-being. It has various dimensions that include emotional, mental and physical health. Despite its complexity, wellness is an ongoing process that requires an individual’s full attention.

This study explored the effect of wellness consciousness on home-based exercise during the COVID-19 pandemic and examined its influencing mechanism using Structural Equation Modeling. Findings indicate that health consciousness significantly influences home-based exercise through the mediation of health life goal and perceived behavioral control. Therefore, it is recommended that people should improve their health consciousness to create favorable conditions for adopting exercise behaviors. Moreover, they should set health life goals to further promote their health and wellness.

Environment

Environmental wellness is about caring for your personal space, such as homes, work or volunteer locations and the surrounding environment. It also encompasses larger communities and the planet at large. Environmental wellness can involve activities like gardening and spending time in nature. It can also include activities like recycling and taking public transportation.

Studies indicate that our environments can positively or negatively influence our mental wellness. One example of this is the correlation between green spaces and mental wellbeing. In addition, reflections from pandemic era lockdowns suggest that people have rediscovered the healing power of nature.

Developing wellness consciousness requires learning about the interrelationships between our human health, the natural environment and planetary sustainability. This can be accomplished through mindfulness practices and learning about a wide variety of topics, including air, water, food, energy, transportation, consumerism, mindful nature experience and the ethics of planetary health. We have developed a Mindful Eco-Wellness curriculum that offers weekly themes related to these topics as part of our yoga classes, which are led by our certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction instructor.
