Spiritual Energy is the unseen life force that flows through all living things. It’s sometimes called prana, chi, or divine light.
Spiritual energy can be channeled by prayer, meditation, and healing. It can also come from a sense of connection to nature or sacred sites. For example, mountains inspire strength, forests bring calm, and oceans restore balance.
Meditation
Meditation is practiced in many religious traditions and some scientific studies have shown that regular meditation can positively affect brain and mental health. It can help you become calm, increase gray matter in the brain, improve intelligence and creativity, lower blood pressure and heart rate, and reduce stress levels.
During meditation, people usually sit in a chair or cross-legged on the floor with their eyes closed. They observe their breath, letting go of bodily tension on the inhale and relaxing on the exhale. It is normal for the mind to wander; however, it is important to passively notice when your attention leaves your breath and then slowly bring it back to observing the rhythm of the breath.
Alico recommends trying a body scan where you begin at the top of the head and move down your body, releasing tension as you go. She also recommends the UCLA Meditation App and the Insight Timer App, which offer a variety of guided meditations.
Kindness
For millennia, ancient spiritual practices have sought to harness this power to change the world around us. They have called it by many names, including Qi, Ki, Prana, Pneuma, Mana, but all of them speak to a force that can affect profound human changes.
Kindness is a key aspect of this energy. It includes simple acts like saying please and thank you, waiting your turn, lending a helping hand, or cheering someone up with a smile. But it also encompasses more expansive acts of generosity toward those close to you, as well as strangers and animals.
The next time you interact with others, ask yourself how you can be kinder to them. Doing so can help you grow closer to your faith and increase your spiritual energy levels.
Community
Spiritual action can take place on many different levels, from a personal level like exhibiting humility, to a group level such as forming a community that practices compassion or forgiveness. Spiritual assets can also be expressed on a societal level in community organizations and public services, such as advocating for justice or providing shelter.
These energies aren’t just limited to people, but they also pertain to space. Sacred sites such as temples, shrines, and ancient ruins often feel charged with devotion. Objects like crystals and other tools may hold or amplify specific vibrations. Even personal items that are gifted with love or used in ritual retain some energy over time.
Conditions that facilitate the expression of spiritual assets include being sensitive to others’ distress and suffering, resolving to speak out when injustices occur, and prioritizing relationships with family members. Other conditions can include being willing to forgive and demonstrating patience. These virtues, along with hope, are some of the most common characteristics shared by spiritual communities.
Concentration
A key component of spiritual practice is concentration. Concentration is one-pointed attention on the object of mindfulness, such as the breath or a sound. It allows the mind to shift from its surface, intellectual level into contact with the creative flow and intuitive levels of the mind.
All living things and objects contain energy. Some energy is negative, while others are positive. Healers, psychics, and channelers are all able to sense the energy of a person or place. The energy of a person is reflected in their thoughts, emotions, and behavior.
Many yoga practices focus on controlling energy by using the body’s natural energy to cultivate spiritual well-being. Pranayama techniques regulate prana, qi gong and tai chi use intentional breathwork to guide Qi, and meditation focuses the mind’s attention. Training the concentration is a 24/7 job, not only when you sit in meditation but also when you fill out a form, talk to a friend, drive your car, or whatever else it might be that consumes your time and energy.
