What is Spiritual Energy?

Many of us have heard about spiritual energy — the idea that there is a type of force that powers everything and can affect our lives. But what is it exactly?

The key is understanding that it’s not just about physical energy like radiowaves, microwaves or sound waves. It’s about something deeper.

1. It’s all around us

Spiritual Energy is a force that surrounds every living thing. It’s been described in many ways throughout the world: In Chinese philosophy and medicine it is known as qi, in yoga meditation and practice it is called prana. In the scientific community, it is often referred to as a state of flow discovered by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.

You might have heard people talking about high or low energy, which in a spiritual context means their moods or levels of enlightenment. Similarly, you may have been told that you are an accepting or rejecting conduit for spiritual energy.

Just as radiowaves, microwaves and sound waves radiate through physical space, so does spiritual energy. When you are an accepting conduit for this energy, you feel energized and full of life.

2. It’s a force

For millennia people have been trying to manipulate spiritual energy. It goes by a variety of names: Qi, Prana, Mana, Pneuma. They want to harness this invisible force and use it to complete their divine purpose or dharma.

In everyday life we use the word “energy” to describe a person’s mood. But when we’re talking about spiritual energy, the meaning is different.

Spiritual energy is the underlying force that connects beliefs, teachings, and moral practices across traditions. It’s a state of being described in religious texts, philosophies and ancient healing systems. It’s also a concept explored in scientific journals like the Flow Theory developed by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. It’s the underlying energy that creates a feeling of fulfillment and aliveness. It’s the force that animates life and drives evolution.

3. It’s a feeling

Spiritual energy is a feeling of connection with something bigger than yourself. It’s a feeling of being loved, of compassion and understanding, of empathy. It’s a feeling of being connected to all living things.

When you have high levels of spiritual energy, you’re more sensitive to everything around you. That can be a good thing, or it can be a bad thing. It depends on how you use it.

If you’re very sensitive and not using it in a healthy way, then it can be overwhelming. For example, if someone’s unhappiness triggers your hidden lack of self worth issue, then you exend a lot of energy trying to fix them instead of dealing with your own issues. That’s not a good thing to do.

4. It’s a memory

Many people believe that Spiritual Energy is a memory. They may say that it’s a memory of past experiences or emotions, and that it can be transmitted from person to person like radiowaves or microwaves.

However, it would be a mistake to think that this means that it’s invisible or tangible. Energy can be felt at a physiological level, such as when you look at someone’s eyes and their mood changes.

Furthermore, scientific research has found that the parietal cortex (particularly the right hemisphere) is associated with the sense of connection to something outside of oneself that underlies spirituality. This suggests that the felt-sense of connection to something larger than yourself is a memory stored in this part of the brain. This also explains why items often have residual energy attached to them when they are old.

5. It’s a power

It’s been said that every living thing holds this energy within them. It is also called soul energy and is closely linked to your emotions.

It allows you to sense, feel and intuit everything and everyone around you. That’s why it’s easy to pick up on a tense atmosphere or feel drained by a needy friend.

Spiritual Energy is viewed in many ways across various spiritual and esoteric traditions. Some believe it’s a force from significant past events that facilitates a mystical union with God, others say it can heal and transform the physical body, and some see it as divine guidance for life’s journey.

You can tap into this energy through practices like mindfulness, meditation and prayer. It’s a great way to become one with the world and help heal it too!
