Holistic Health and BioSpirituality

Biospiritual holistic health care is an integrative practice. One that acknowledges the four-fold connection between spirit-soul-mind-body we all possess. In focusing on the underlying mechanics of spirituality and physical reality, this holistic healing model holds that the two are inseparably entwined.

So, what about this connection, and how can we use it to heal ourselves? Gregg Braden, former senior aerospace computer systems designer and author of The Divine Matrix, tells us “We have been taught that emotions and beliefs don't have much power in our lives, but nothing could be further from the truth...We have the power to heal our bodies, we have the power to alter reality....”

And Dr. Bruce Lipton, cellular biologist and author of the critically acclaimed The Biology of Belief speaks of a “new biology” that takes us “into another reality, a reality where our thoughts, beliefs and mind control our genes, our behavior and the life we experience.” Essentially they tell us we have the power to influence our health and wellness with our intentional thought, our felt emotion and through our (programmed) beliefs.

Our thoughts are energy and every thought has power. Mystics and spiritual traditions have said this through the ages. Our intentions matter. Through the science of physics, we understand that we are energetic fields of intention. We create intentional fields, wherein all of our unconscious beliefs shape our outer world and then create the personal events that occur in the future.

We create our reality. Most of us have heard this said many times. However, more accurately we're aligned as co-creators in this endeavor. As individuals living in societies, we operate within a general consensus of reality. Or using Stephen Colbert's cuttingly humorous phrase, we each have agreed to “a unilateral declaration of reality”.

What's more, there are many levels of reality. Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D., author of Shaman, Healer, Sage, identifies four energetic levels of reality within which we all participate:

  • Literal - matter/body
  • Symbolic - mind
  • Mythic - soul
  • Essential - spirit

He further outlines the languages used by each level and the pathways of communication they follow:

  • Body uses the language of chemicals at the cellular level
  • Mind communicates through words and thought
  • Soul uses images and archetypes to communicate
  • Spirit uses energetic imprints (feelings)

Communication pathways inform each level of reality. The mind informs the body. Soul informs the mind. And Spirit informs soul. These energetic levels, languages and pathways form the basis for an integrative holistic healing model.

Acknowledging these communication pathways and energetic levels of reality are key considerations when practicing biospiritual healing techniques. It's also helpful to have a basic understanding of the concepts known as:
