Grapefruit Seed Extract Used to Counteract MRSA

by David

I received information first hand very recently from someone that had a bacterial infection on his leg. It is known as MRSA, i.e., the one that is referred to as “flesh eating.” He was being treated at a St. Luke’s Hospital in the Midwest, and said the antibiotics were not doing any good, and what finally brought it under control was Grapefruit seed extract. Very good to know.

Alternative methods for treating MRSA
by: Valory

If you are searching for alternative methods for treating MRSA besides the conventional rounds of antibiotics generally prescribed by AMA doctors, I've found that sites such as http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/MRSA.html can be very useful. The information is essentially anecdotal and as always, the reader is best served by using good judgement. However, remedies such as the use of raw garlic, raw honey, especially Manuka honey, turmeric, food-grade hydrogen peroxide, to name a few, are worth consideration.

David, your story about how grapefruit seed extract was used to bring MRSA under control is useful information. Thanks again for your post and valuable input. This is the kind of information sharing we need to empower us as a wellness community.

Thanks for this helpful story David

MRSA - a strain of the common staph bacteria known as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus - is actually a much more common condition than most of us are led to believe. It's responsible for more deaths throughout the US than the AIDS virus!

In 2005, MRSA infections killed 18,650 people in the US. Whereas AIDS in the same year, claimed 12,500 lives. I read recently that some 'authorities' think that around 32 out of every 100,000 US residents develop MRSA infections each year - 94,360 more infections than meningitis, bacterial pneumonia and flesh-eating strep combined. Though the true accuracy of this conjecture is debatable, the seriousness of the condition if contracted, is not.

Without treatment, these infections can cause destruction of skin tissue leading to extremely painful and often disfiguring abscesses. If these bacteria spread to bones, joints, vital organs or into the blood stream, the potential complications can lead to death.

The problem here is not so much the growing number of people becoming infected - rather, as David points out in his post, it's that these bacteria are so resistant to first-line antibiotic treatments.

However, as you know, the healing paradigm used on this website is one of empowering self-responsibility. So, I'll remind readers first to step out of any fear-based emotions these statistics and the media in general illicit - should you be heading off in that direction.

Next, maintain an on-going daily alignment practice of continually building and strengthening your immune system and raising your body's overall vibrational frequency.

One of the very best - and most pleasant - ways to do this is to include therapeutic grade essential oils in your daily life practice. Many of them have anti-infectious and anti-bacterial qualities that are exceptionally effective in countering or preventing bacterial infections. Many strengthen our body's immune functions. And all help to raise vibrational frequency. Tea tree essential oil in particular has been used by many people specifically in treating MRSA infections. See Essential Oils and Aromatherapy for more information and feel free to contact me with any questions about specific oils.

More on Building Immunity
by: Valory

A few of my favorite immunity strengtheners and healing allies:

  • Black Elderberry extract – One study done on this extract showed that it shortened the duration and lessened the symptoms of 10 different strains of the flu virus. Though MRSA is a bacterium, elderberry extract has powerful immune enhancing properties. I keep a bottle of this on hand in my home apothecary. It’s not something I use on a daily basis. But I will crack open a bottle of it at the first sign of any symptoms of immune dysfunction.

  • Colloidal Silver – The use of colloidal silver (CS) is somewhat controversial. The FDA and the FTC have their issues with what can and can’t be written about colloidal silver so (of course), I’ll be writing an article for this website entirely on this subject alone.:-) Meanwhile, I encourage you to do your own research on this powerful substance. The March 1978 issue of Science Digest published an article entitled “Our Mightiest Germ Fighter.&rdquo This article reported: &ldquoThanks to eye-opening research, silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine. An antibiotic kills perhaps a half-dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650. Resistant strains fail to develop. Moreover, silver is virtually non-toxic.” No wonder the FDA/FTC wants to restrict what’s written about CS.

  • Chamomile Tea - A study published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry showed that chamomile tea increases antibacterial activity in your body. Drinking tea is a pleasant way to increase your bacterial immunity, do you agree? :-) Note: if you don’t have any chamomile herb in the house, you can use essential oil of chamomile to create a tea. Careful though, you need a minute fraction of the oil compared with using the loose leaf tea.

  • Sunlight – I’ll be writing an entire section on the health benefits of sunlight and light therapy soon. So, I won’t go into it here. Please bookmark this site and check back soon.

  • Homeopathy – ditto with this section too.

  • Sleep – Ah yes, one of my very favorite immune builders. Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best ways to build your body’s immune system.

  • Alkalize - Eliminate most sugars, starches, and carbohydrates in general, from your daily diet. Sugar decimates the immune system and all carbs become sugar within the body. Dr. Mercola's great article outlining a healthy diet based upon a low carbohydrate, high good-quality fats and moderate protein ratio of food consumption is a great place to start. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/07/29/foods-that-keep-you-thin.aspx?e_cid=20110729_DNL_art_1
